Few places are as chilling as abandoned libraries. Despair, Inc. could certainly use them to demotivate writers.

If you’re like me, you may be wondering how a library even becomes abandoned? I mean, if you’re going to abandon a library how about you just give it to me instead. It’s always been my dream to live in a library.

Unfortunately, abandoned libraries do happen for various reasons.

In East St. Louis, for example, 10,000 books were accidentally left behind when its library moved. These books sat in the empty building for four years. [See the pictures and story.]

East St. Louis is not the only city with an abandoned library. Detroit also has a few ghost libraries: one, two and three.
Indiana and Virginia have a couple, too

It’s crazy that libraries become abandoned like this. You’d hope that it would never happen and that these might be just one or two exceptions. Unfortunately, we’re not done breaking your book-loving heart just yet. Here’s some even more abandoned library images.
