Onsite blogging can drive a lot of traffic to your business’ site. Consumers are always looking for information that will help them decide between vendors so blogging is a great opportunity to make a positive first impression, raise your business’ profile, and close the deal. There are better and worse ways to go about it, though. Here are some things to keep in mind when building a blog:
- Site speed: A slow-loading site can drastically reduce sales and conversions. Plus, speed determines search engine rankings. Aim for a speed of three seconds or less.
- Freshness: New or even renewed content is another determinant of rank, according to Google.
- Keyword density: Having the appropriate density of keywords (Not too many or too few) is also key to rank. Updating content can also boost rankings.
- Title tag: This detail is critical. Try to have titles of no more than 55 characters in length, with the target keyword or phrase and enticing wording.
- Duplicate content: This hurts your rankings and traffic. Fortunately you can use robots.txt, set your preferred domain, use a 301/302 redirect, and utilize the rel=”canonical” or rel=”nofollow” tags.
More people are online now than ever before so it pays to have an online presence. Using the above tips you can make sure your blog is as effective as possible.
While these tips focus on the technical aspects of your blog, don’t forget the heart. Your blog posts shouldn’t be copy and pasted generic ideas. You should think long and hard about what you’re going to write every time you sit down at the keyboard. Give your customers something that will entertain them, and they’ll give you their business.
Much success,
