Just a few years ago it was a case of “only 90s kids will remember this,” it’s now 2022 and the next generation of kids are getting older. It’s been 21 years since the first Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings movies were released, it’s been over 26 years since the first Toy Story was released and almost 20 years since Finding Nemo was released.
You’re probably feeling depressed right now, here’s 10 things to fill you with that lovely, gooey nostalgia!
10. Sending songs via Bluetooth/Infrared
In a simpler time before any song could be acquired almost instantly, 2000s kids had to share their files and songs via infrared or bluetooth systems. The pain of setting up the transfer was irritating, but not as much as the time it would take to actually transfer.
9. Portable CD Players
If you wanted to listen to music on the go, the CD player was the only practical way of doing this. Before the emergence of the MP3 player and later the iPod, carrying around a huge thick circle that was stuffed into your pocket was the norm.
8. Snake
Countless hours were spent on this epic game. Eat food to grow and try not to hit yourself, this was the premise behind one of the most recognisable games of all time. It looks simple now but when phones had just a few features, it was incredible.
7. MSN Messenger
Many friends, partners, issues and assignments were created/solved through MSN. The clutter-fest of emojis was one of the first programs to connect people online, certainly the most popular of the first few.
6. Call of Duty
Call of Duty is currently dominating the market with huge amounts of sales each year, what older players will remember is just how glorious the first installments were. Before Modern Warfare defined an entire genre, the previous titles were masterpieces.
5. Limewire
Limewire was the ultimate software kit to acquiring anything and everything on the internet. Countless PCs were invaded with malware after the user tried to download a song or a picture. Limewire has unfortunately been shut down for a good few years now, not like it’s really useful anymore anyway.
4. Dial-Up
We’re used to having super-fast internet from small devices in our pockets nowadays but not too long ago, you would happily spend an hour or two downloading a single file. Internet was slow and expensive but the ability to connect to anyone in the world, or share/obtain anything you wanted was well worth it.
3. Runescape
People would go to school, talk about Runescape, go home and then play Runescape and then come back into school next day and do the same thing. It was extremely popular which lead to it creating a whole new wave of gamers. Runescape’s contribution to gaming will never be forgotten.
Runescape is still one of the most popular MMORPG’s out there with millions of players all around the world.
2. Gameboy
The introduction of games in colour with lighting was incredible. The Gameboy SP is one of the most popular handheld consoles of all time and for good reason, it was the perfect system at the time. Almost everyone who grew up in the 2000s will say that they loved playing their favourite games on their Gameboy SP.
1. Razr Phones
The sleek looking Motorola Razr was massively sought after for a long time. It became the best selling phone of all time when it was released and the looks still hold up today. 2010s kids will never know how much they missed out on!
