Endangered Snakes

All species in the ecosystem play a special role. They balance the food chain which is important in maintaining invertebrate and non-invertebrate populations.

For instance, reptiles play as predators in the ecosystem and they also serve as prey for some species. These past few years, there has been a rapid decline on the number of preys and predators making the bionetwork imbalanced. As snakes and other reptiles are now being hunted by people for different purposes, even dangerous animals have now become extinct.

This degeneration has caused a lot of negative impact on the environment which is why support groups are now into wildlife conservation. There are ways that people can do to save the animals. Even rare animals can be saved if people know things about endangered species and how their population can be preserved.

What Are Endangered Species?

Endangered species are also called rare animals. They are animal species that have come to extinction. It is important to protect these animals because just like other living things, these animals help protect the world from deteriorating.

Nowadays, snakes, reptiles and other endangered animals have become black market items because of their value. Some people buy them because of beliefs such as great luck, medicinal benefits, strength, and other reasons which are not backed up by reliable scientific studies.

Some people buy them to brag their status quo resulting to more environmental imbalance problems. Most of these animals are caught through inhumane ways and are sold for large amounts of money. They are usually smuggled since they are not allowed in main airports and other legit carriers.

Killing Snake Species

Since the ancient times, many people believe that reptiles can give them strength and cure them from different illnesses. Some people kill snakes in order to get these benefits yet there are no guaranteed studies about them. They are mostly traditions and superstitions passed from one generation to another.

As time goes by, the number of snakes continuously plummet which is also impacting society in many ways. Some of the snakes that have become extinct are the Argentinean Boa Constrictor which can be mostly found in Argentina and Uruguay, the famous King Cobra which used to be very common in the Philippines and India, and the Mexican Ridge-Nosed Rattlesnake which is commonly found in New Mexico and the United States. People cook them like regular meat, take their skin, take their blood, and do other things just to satisfy their beliefs about snakes.

What Needs to Be Done

There are many support groups trying to save reptiles and other rare animals. These people are those who value life today and think about their future and their children’s tomorrow.

On the other hand, their efforts are not enough to combat the whole problem in an instant. Support groups are there to educate and do what they can in terms of maintaining ecology balance through preserving reptiles. They conduct seminars to make people aware of things such as the importance of snakes and other reptiles.

Preserving endangered species is not limited to support groups but also ordinary people. By knowing the importance of these species, they can stop their habits which are harmful to the environment. They can inform their families and pass the information to the next generation which can change their traditions and beliefs.

It may take a long time to combat the issue about snakes and other endangered animals but if people act today, there is a big possibility to save the dying ecosystem. In a few years, the number animals can increase as they can be reproduced scientifically and they can also reproduce by themselves if people stop catching them.
